Senior Process Engineer – Small Molecule/Oligo/Peptide

Location: Denver, Colorado, USA; can be based near any hirify.global location, with a remote option considered.

Salary: $103,125–$165,000 annually for candidates based in Denver; the general posted compensation range is $100,000–$165,000 yearly.

What you will do

• Lead process engineering scopes for small molecule API development, scale-up, manufacturing optimization, and facility design.
• Develop process flow diagrams, P&IDs, mass and energy balances, technical reports, proposals, and client presentations.
• Conduct site assessments, gap analyses, feasibility studies, equipment selection, and process improvement evaluations.
• Manage scope, budget, schedule, design decisions, action items, and changes across client and internal teams.
• Coordinate with architecture, mechanical, electrical, and construction disciplines, vendors, and external partners.
• Support bid tabulations, vendor package management, factory acceptance testing, risk assessments, model reviews, and functional specification reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related ABET-accredited discipline.
• At least 5 years of experience in small molecule process engineering, preferably in consulting or client-facing environments.
• Strong knowledge of chemical synthesis, purification, formulation, API manufacturing equipment, and utility systems.
• Experience with cGMP practices and FDA, EMA, ICH, and related regulatory guidance.
• Experience designing engineering controls for containment of highly potent APIs.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to coordinate projects and mentor junior engineers.

Nice to have

• EIT or PE certification.
• Experience with commissioning, startup, qualification, troubleshooting, and validation documentation.
• Experience leading a small team on complex engineering design projects.
• Familiarity with process safety, HAZOP studies, risk assessments, and external partner coordination.
