Mechanical Workshop Technical Lead

Location: hirify.global Brisbane South (Nathan) campus, Brisbane, Australia; occasional work across other university locations may be required. On-campus and work-from-home options are available.

Salary: AUD 104,504.60–113,219.43 base salary plus 17% superannuation; full package range AUD 122,270.38–132,466.72.

What you will do

• Lead daily Mechanical Workshop operations and ensure safe, efficient, high-quality service delivery.
• Plan and deliver fabrication, repair, assembly, machining, welding, and engineering projects from procurement through completion.
• Provide technical guidance on equipment, maintenance, training, and workshop operations.
• Coordinate project requirements, timelines, priorities, schedules, and resource allocation with clients and the Workshop Manager.
• Lead and mentor the Mechanical Workshop team, resolve technical issues, and maintain quality standards.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve workshop performance and efficiency.

Requirements

• Relevant tertiary qualifications and subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education or training.
• Demonstrated competency in TIG welding aluminium and stainless steel.
• Experience working with metals, plastics, timber, and composites.
• Experience operating equipment for manufacturing, machining, fabrication, assembly, and prototyping.
• Ability to work primarily at the Brisbane South (Nathan) campus and across other university locations when required.

Nice to have

• Experience operating CNC manufacturing equipment and associated technologies.
