Senior/Staff Mechanical Engineer, Factory Automation

Location: On-site in Torrance, California, United States

Salary: $128,520–$204,090 USD per year, depending on Senior or Staff level.

What you will do

• Own the mechanical design and development of factory automation systems from requirements and concept through detailed design, integration, validation, release, and deployment.
• Translate manufacturing and operational needs into system requirements, interfaces, constraints, and acceptance criteria.
• Develop mechanical architectures and detailed designs using 3D CAD, engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, calculations, component selection, and bills of material.
• Design and integrate structures, mechanisms, precision motion, fluid and thermal systems, sealing, enclosures, and machine interfaces.
• Lead prototyping, assembly, testing, troubleshooting, risk reduction, fleet investigations, and design iteration.
• Coordinate technical work with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, suppliers, and contract manufacturers while mentoring other engineers.

Requirements

• Ability to lawfully access information and technology subject to US export controls.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Track record of architecting and delivering complex mechanical systems from concept through design, build, test, release, and deployment.
• Expertise in 3D CAD, engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, component selection, and design for manufacturability and assembly.
• Hands-on experience developing prototypes and integrating, testing, and troubleshooting mechanical equipment.
• Ability to lead cross-functional technical work, make decisions with incomplete information, and provide technical guidance or mentorship.

Nice to have

• Experience with Siemens NX, Teamcenter, Jira, Confluence, Teams, SharePoint, Power BI, or Oracle.
• Experience with industrial automation, industrial robotics, machine tools, welding systems, plating or coating systems, additive manufacturing, or capital equipment.
• Experience designing precision mechanisms, motion, fluid, thermal, vacuum, structural, or enclosure systems.
• Experience with engineering change control, configuration management, supplier collaboration, contract manufacturing, and production hardware qualification.
