Advanced Practice Provider (NP II or PA II) - NIAID / Neuroimmunology (Clinical Research)

Location: On-site at the National Institutes of Health campus, Bethesda, Maryland, USA, during regular clinic hours Monday–Friday, excluding federal holidays.

Salary: $102,300–$146,483 per year.

What you will do

• Assess patients through health histories, physical examinations, screening procedures, and clinical documentation.
• Explain diagnoses, treatment programs, care plans, and discharge plans to patients, families, and clinical teams.
• Provide protocol-driven medical interventions, order and interpret laboratory studies, order radiological studies, and perform procedures such as lumbar punctures.
• Coordinate referrals and continuity of care between the NIH Clinical Center and outside hospitals or providers.
• Serve as an Associate Investigator by supporting protocol development, patient screening and enrollment, informed consent, data collection, and sample processing.
• Share research outcomes through clinical rounds, protocol meetings, staff training, manuscripts, and conference presentations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or four years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree; foreign degrees require U.S. equivalency evaluation.
• Physician Assistants must graduate from an ARC-PA-accredited program, pass the NCCPA examination, and be eligible for the Maryland State Board.
• Nurse Practitioners must hold approved nursing education, active current U.S. nursing registration, and AANP or ANCC certification; Maryland State Board eligibility is required.
• All applicants must document a pending Maryland license.
• At least two years of progressively responsible Nurse Practitioner or relevant Physician Assistant experience, with knowledge of clinical assessment, diagnostics, pharmacology, and medical management.
• Ability to conduct studies according to FDA Good Clinical Practice, obtain and maintain a security clearance, and work on-site during clinic hours.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of ICH/GCP guidelines, clinical research methods, ethics, and clinical protocol implementation.
• Clinical neurology experience, including detailed neurologic examinations and lumbar punctures.
• Previous clinical trial experience in a research setting.
• Adult Acute Care certification with relevant training or experience.
