Medical Interpreter (Spanish)

Location: Memphis, Tennessee, United States; on-site and telephone interpretation services, with a regular shift from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Salary: $24.00–$42.00 per hour.

What you will do

• Interpret critical medical information between Spanish-speaking patients, caregivers, and providers during inpatient and outpatient visits.
• Support communication for informed consent, medical interviews, healthcare instructions, and telephone conferences.
• Connect limited-English-proficient patients and families with appropriate hospital resources while maintaining confidentiality.
• Complete limited written translation of non-critical documents and maintain accurate daily service records.
• Collaborate with interpreters, participate in on-call coverage, and assist with volunteer interpreter coordination and interpreter training.
• Participate in continuing education, competency training, and activities supporting regular, predictable attendance.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; a bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Completion of an accredited medical interpreter training course of at least 40 hours required.
• At least three months or 480 hours of documented professional medical interpreting experience required.
• Proficiency in Spanish and English required for medical interpretation.
• Certified Healthcare Interpreter certification from CCHI or Certified Medical Interpreter certification from NBCMI is required within 12 months of hire.

Nice to have

• Proficiency interpreting medical encounters in Hebrew.
