Mechanical Engineer (SolidWorks)

Location: Middletown, Rhode Island; must be local to the work location. Occasional telework is available.

Projected compensation range: $56,364.49–$98,006.91 per year.

What you will do

• Design, update, and prototype Special Support Equipment products, laboratory equipment, and production fixtures.
• Work with NUWC’s SolidWorks PDM Vault and maintain models in accordance with configuration management processes.
• Lead drawing-related assignments from the Configuration Review Board and complete required documentation.
• Peer-review engineering drawings and models, including GD&T, drawing notes, and compliance with ASME Y14.100 and MIL-STD-31000.
• Perform mechanical analysis and review contractor-developed equipment designs.
• Prepare reports and present project progress, risks, and milestones to stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 0–2 years of experience.
• Experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar CAD tools.
• Strong technical writing, presentation, documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of U.S. submarine platforms and operating environments.
• Ability to obtain and hold a Secret Clearance.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Visio or similar engineering documentation tools.
• Experience with process improvement methodologies such as CMMI.
• Understanding of DoD engineering design practices.
• Knowledge of Electronic Warfare systems, specifically AN/BLQ-10.
• Active or very recent DoD security clearance.
