Scientific Innovator – AI-Driven Engineering (f/m/d) (AI engineering): Developing AI-driven digital twin and hybrid models, engineering assistants, and scalable prototypes for condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, and lifecycle optimization with an accent on neural networks, GenAI/LLMs, simulation, and sensor-data integration. Focus on conducting applied research, validating models, and transferring research into robust engineering and operations solutions.

Location: Wolfratshausen, Germany, with a three-year program in Weinheim followed by transfer to Wolfratshausen.

What you will do

  • Scout emerging technologies in AI, design automation, mechanical engineering, and simulation.
  • Develop prototypes and proofs of concept, including neural networks, surrogate models, agentic workflows, and LLM-based engineering assistants.
  • Build AI-driven digital twin and hybrid models for condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, and lifecycle optimization.
  • Integrate sensor data, simulation results, and engineering domain knowledge.
  • Conduct applied research by formulating hypotheses, training models, validating results, and analyzing data.
  • Transfer research into robust, scalable solutions and collaborate with engineering and product development teams in Germany and the USA.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or PhD in engineering, computational sciences, physics, materials, or a related field.
  • Experience in applied research or industrial development.
  • Expertise in at least two areas: neural networks, GenAI/LLMs and agentic systems, surrogate models, data analytics, FEM/CFD simulation, MLOps, or platform development.
  • Strong Python programming skills.
  • Experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Ability to communicate complex topics clearly in English and German.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with GenAI tools such as LangChain.
