TL;DR
Program Aide (Healthcare): Reviewing healthcare Root Cause Analysis documentation and providing consultative feedback to improve patient safety outcomes with an accent on causal analysis, action planning, and quality standards. Focus on evaluating flow diagrams, causal chains, corrective actions, outcome measures, and systemic gaps across facility submissions.

Location: College Station, Texas, United States; onsite and part-time. Work may occasionally extend beyond normal office hours or include weekends.

What you will do

  • Review healthcare Root Cause Analysis submissions using the RCA Quality Analysis Tool and established evaluation criteria.
  • Assess multidisciplinary team composition, flow diagrams, event narratives, information gaps, and cause-and-effect diagrams.
  • Evaluate causal statements against the Five Rules of Causation and review action plans using the Action Hierarchy.
  • Verify that outcome measures are quantifiable, time-bound, realistic, and assigned to appropriate titled positions.
  • Prepare consultative reports with findings, commendations, and recommendations for facility RCA teams.
  • Track recurring gaps, support RCA training materials and facility education, and coordinate findings with the PSO Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, nursing, public health, quality improvement, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience participating in Root Cause Analyses in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of RCA methodology, patient safety principles, systems-based error prevention, and healthcare regulatory requirements.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide constructive non-punitive feedback.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data management tools; ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of protected patient safety work product.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in healthcare administration, public health, or a related field.
  • CPPS or CPHQ certification.
  • Experience with VHA National Center for Patient Safety or NPSF RCA2 methodologies, Patient Safety Organizations, or Joint Commission sentinel event requirements.
  • Training in human factors engineering principles.
