Sr. Applied Research Engineer 1 (HVAC)

Location: Blauvelt, New York; on-site Monday–Friday at the manufacturing facility. The role may require occasional presence on the manufacturing floor and 5–10% travel.

Salary: $105,000–$124,000 yearly.

What you will do

• Investigate emerging technologies through research projects, technology scouting, literature reviews, patent reviews, calculations, simulations, and concept testing.
• Lead assigned research and technology-development projects with limited supervision.
• Work with the engineering lab to design, build, and test prototypes and proof-of-concept equipment.
• Generate research proposals, project plans, schedules, budget estimates, reports, and white papers.
• Collaborate with internal and external teams, including universities, startups, suppliers, and vendors, on open innovation initiatives.
• Facilitate brainstorming and innovation sessions while identifying concepts requiring early validation.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.
• At least 5 years of research or design engineering experience.
• Ability to critically assess laboratory problems, validate new concepts, and provide relevant technical solutions.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, influencing, collaboration, and independent planning skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
• Must establish employment eligibility and complete background checks, drug screening, and required pre-employment testing.

Nice to have

• 3+ years of HVAC heat pump or chiller design experience.
• Experience with 3D modeling and process simulation software.
• Experience with CFD modeling of two-phase heat transfer systems.
