TL;DR
Lead Testing & Commissioning Engineer (Power Systems): Planning, performing, and documenting commissioning activities for utility substations, protection and control circuits, and power plant equipment with an accent on electrical testing, troubleshooting, risk assessment, and detailed reporting. Focus on interpreting schematics, analyzing relay and equipment issues, coordinating energization activities, and ensuring safe system operation during field projects.

Location: Baltimore, Maryland; project work across the Mid-Atlantic region with out-of-town travel of up to several weeks at a time

Salary: USD $127,795.20–$140,000.00 per year, plus potential participation in an annual discretionary bonus program.

What you will do

  • Plan, coordinate, perform, and document pre-commissioning, testing, energization, and project closeout activities for utility substation protection, control, and power circuits.
  • Review wiring diagrams, schematics, construction documents, manufacturer specifications, and engineering materials before projects and outages.
  • Troubleshoot protection and control systems, substation equipment, wiring, settings, batteries, apparatus, and test-result issues.
  • Develop testing, commissioning, energization, site risk assessment, and project-specific documentation.
  • Prepare and review daily, weekly, project completion, and detailed electrical equipment test reports.
  • Participate in project kickoff, planning, progress, and lessons-learned meetings while identifying risks and mitigation measures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, plus 10+ years of testing and commissioning experience.
  • Ability to read and understand construction and manufacturer drawings, specifications, schematic diagrams, and one-line and three-line interconnection diagrams.
  • Knowledge of electrical protection systems, relay communications, AC and DC schematics, medium- and high-voltage substation equipment, and power plant equipment.
  • Experience with testing and commissioning utility protection and control circuits; ability to perform apparatus testing and interpret results.
  • Current US work eligibility and a valid US driver's license issued by the state of residence are required.
  • Availability for extended travel, flexible hours, weekends, overtime, holidays, and night work is required.

Nice to have

  • Electric utility commissioning experience.
  • Experience with Doble Protection Suite, ProTest, SEL AcSELerator, or Enoserv RTS.
