System Engineer II (Submarine Combat Systems)

Location: Newport, Rhode Island, United States; flexible for occasional telework, but candidates must be local to the work location.

Projected annual compensation: $68,295.59–$118,752.78.

What you will do

• Integrate, test, evaluate, and transition enterprise capabilities for non-propulsion submarine and ship systems.
• Troubleshoot and recommend enhancements for combat systems, fire control systems, weapons, launchers, sonar, radar, periscopes, electronic warfare, and navigation interfaces.
• Design and assess system modernization and capability expansions for emerging Navy requirements.
• Conduct functional, integration, system, factory acceptance, environmental, and operational testing.
• Analyze technical data, document test results and investigations, and present trade studies covering risks, benefits, and feasibility.
• Develop CONOPS, performance specifications, interface documentation, operational procedures, and platform technical data packages.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline with 2–4 years of experience, or equivalent experience; alternatives include a master’s degree with 0–2 years or a high school diploma with 8–10 years.
• Experience with AN/BYG-1 TCS/SWFTS architecture, combat control systems, launcher systems, torpedoes, missiles, payload control, and submarine non-propulsion electronics.
• Knowledge of U.S. Navy submarine land-based laboratory testing and evaluation environments.
• Experience designing, troubleshooting, analyzing, reporting on, and testing complex systems.
• Ability to write, edit, and maintain submarine operational documentation, including firing craft procedures.
• U.S. citizenship and an active Department of Defense Secret security clearance are required.
