TL;DR
Precision Grinder Second Shift (HLG) (Aerospace Manufacturing): Operating manual and CNC precision grinding machines to produce aerospace and defense components according to blueprints and engineering specifications with an accent on GD&T, precise gaging, and process traceability. Focus on maintaining tight tolerances, making machine and tooling adjustments, verifying hardware, and supporting safe, efficient manufacturing operations.

Location: Burbank, California, United States; onsite, second shift Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM–10:30 PM. Overtime may change the start time or extend the end time, and weekend work may be required. The position may require access to controlled data; only US Persons will be considered where applicable under ITAR requirements.

Salary: $29.39–$37.29 per hour for Precision Grinder Level I, $36.28–$46.89 per hour for Level II, and $42.70–$54.65 per hour for Level III. Second-shift openings receive a 10% shift differential.

Crane Aerospace & Electronics supplies critical systems and components for aerospace and defense applications, including aircraft, satellites, missiles, unmanned aerial systems, and medical implants.

What you will do

  • Operate manual and CNC cylindrical OD, surface, ID, and form grinding equipment according to blueprints and engineering specifications.
  • Perform grinding setups, daily maintenance, troubleshooting, tooling selection, wheel dressing, and machine adjustments depending on level.
  • Use micrometers, air gauges, profilometers, laser micrometers, camber gauges, and other specialized equipment to verify dimensions, cylindricity, and surface finish.
  • Calculate offsets, clearances, taper, and related characteristics to maintain tight tolerances and process control.
  • Complete inspection and in-process verification records to ensure product traceability.
  • Escalate safety, tooling, equipment, and quality concerns; support engineering, tool design, supervisors, and other associates.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Understanding of GD&T, gaging practices, grinding media, measurements, and related computations.
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to read work instructions and engineering blueprints.
  • Level II requires at least two years of experience with precision-ground assemblies; Level III requires at least five years.
  • Manual and CNC grinding experience is required for Levels II and III; machine-shop experience is preferred but not required for Level I.
  • Where controlled-data access is required, only US Persons may be considered under ITAR regulations.

Nice to have

  • CNC grinding equipment experience with FANUC or equivalent controls.
