Test Engineer III (Aerospace): Developing and executing ground, flight, developmental, and qualification test plans for aircraft mission systems and avionics with an accent on RF and electronic equipment, verification and validation, and requirements traceability. Focus on integrating mission systems, troubleshooting test anomalies, analyzing post-test data, and leading multidisciplinary test activities.

Location: Hagerstown, Maryland, United States; work in an office, lab, hangar, or offsite environment.

Estimated starting salary: $98,633.53–$135,621.11 per year.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain flight test plans, procedures, reports, schedules, risk assessments, and resource plans.
  • Execute developmental, qualification, ground, and flight testing for aircraft mission systems and avionics.
  • Operate RF and electronic test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, multimeters, data acquisition units, transducers, and accelerometers.
  • Support aircraft integration, subsystem checkout, test readiness and safety reviews, anomaly investigation, and post-test data analysis.
  • Coordinate with systems engineering, avionics, software, and program management to meet technical, cost, and schedule objectives.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior test engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical field; a higher relevant degree may substitute for experience.
  • At least 6 years of aerospace or defense test engineering experience and advanced knowledge of test and evaluation methodologies.
  • Experience planning, conducting, and documenting verification and validation activities, including requirements derivation, traceability, verification, and selloff.
  • Experience developing and executing ground and flight test plans and procedures, reading schematics, using service manuals, and troubleshooting logically.
  • FAA Class III Medical Certification is required; candidates without current certification must obtain it before hire. Altitude Chamber training and qualification are also required.
  • U.S. citizenship and an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance are required. Ability to obtain Sensitive Compartmented Information eligibility is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with DoD programs, ISR platforms, missionized aircraft, FAA or military certification, and lead test or integration IPT roles.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD, DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, DOORS, or Jama.
  • Experience with product and quality assurance principles, non-conformances, and manual or automated testing methodologies.
