Roamer/Tramper HGV Driver

Location: Newbury, United Kingdom. The role is based at the Newbury Operation Centre and requires travel to other operational centres, with approximately 3–4 overnight stays per week in the vehicle cab.

Salary: approximately £52,516 per year based on an average of seven vehicle collections per day, including a £3,000 Roamer allowance. An additional £45 is paid per overnight stay, of which £30 is tax free.

What you will do

• Collect and deliver predominantly accident-damaged vehicles using salvage transporters.
• Travel between operational centres to provide cover during annual leave and periods of increased workload.
• Complete internal and external checks on trucks and loading equipment, report defects, and photograph damage.
• Inspect collected and delivered vehicles and provide accurate service documentation.
• Operate vehicles and loading equipment safely and efficiently in line with health and safety requirements.

Requirements

• HGV Class 1 licence required.
• Current CPC and knowledge of EC Drivers’ Hours and Working Time regulations.
• Experience using a tachograph and driving in rural and urban environments.
• Strong written and verbal communication, customer service, flexibility, and attention to detail.
• Confidence using handheld devices and basic IT applications, with the ability to organise and adapt the working day.
• The role requires approximately 3–4 overnight stays per week in the vehicle cab and is subject to a DBS check and satisfactory references.
