Optics Research Scientist (Optical Materials)

Location: On-site in Maplewood, Minnesota, United States; at least four days per week at the hirify.global Center. Travel may include up to 10% domestic and international travel. Relocation assistance may be authorized.

Expected compensation: $124,127–$151,710 annually, including base pay and variable incentive pay if eligible.

What you will do

• Develop and advance optical materials technologies for new product commercialization opportunities.
• Develop optical modeling and simulation capabilities using scientific, mathematical, and computational skills.
• Design optical components using CAD software.
• Collaborate with Corporate Research, Business Labs, and multidisciplinary research teams.
• Protect intellectual property by filing patent applications and presenting at relevant conferences.
• Support technology and product transfers with international laboratories.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Optical Sciences, Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related science or engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
• Experience with software tools for optical modeling and simulation.
• Experience with CAD software and component design.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employment visa sponsorship, including H-1B sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Experience with optical materials such as fiber optics, photonics, or optoelectronics.
• Experience setting up experiments, collecting laboratory data, and performing data analysis.
• Strong written and oral communication skills and experience collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
• Work-related leadership experience and accomplishments.
• Familiarity with the optical interconnect industry, its key issues, major players, and trends.
