Senior Systems Engineer (Autonomous Rail)

Location: Los Angeles, CA, United States; onsite role.

Target salary range: $163,000–$180,000 USD per year.

What you will do

• Interface with customers and end users to define product needs, goals, objectives, and concepts of operation.
• Develop system architectures, product roadmaps, system requirements, subsystem requirements, and interface control documents.
• Lead trade studies, cross-functional design reviews, and engineering execution across mechanical, electrical, systems, and software disciplines.
• Manage requirements traceability and create compliance matrices, verification and validation plans, integration plans, and design verification procedures.
• Lead FMEA activities and validation campaigns, including acceptance, environmental, integration, and deployment testing.
• Improve testability, reliability, robustness, and engineering best practices across the design lifecycle.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Controls, Aerospace, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience working on complex hardware systems.
• Direct experience testing electromechanical systems integrating hardware, firmware, and software interfaces.
• Strong electromechanical fundamentals and systems integration experience.
• Experience with system and subsystem validation, including acceptance, environmental, integration, and deployment testing.
• Experience with railroad operations, train control software, and structured audit-ready safety and compliance documentation.

Nice to have

• Experience with requirements management, functional architecture, DFMEA, and verification traceability.
• Experience integrating hardware and software in regulated or safety-critical environments.
• Experience improving engineering or manufacturing processes.
• Experience with Python or similar programming languages.
• Familiarity with CAD tools such as SolidWorks.
