Contract Surety Underwriter - CorSo

Location: Hybrid role based in Woburn, Massachusetts or Windsor, Connecticut; candidates are considered from the Northeast region and are expected to work in the office at least three days per week. Travel of up to 25% is required to meet agents and visit bond accounts.

Salary: $156,000–$234,000 annual base salary for the Woburn, Massachusetts position, plus additional compensation components.

What you will do

• Underwrite contract surety bonds in line with Surety Group guidelines, assessing risk acceptability and strategic fit.
• Manage bid and final bond requests and review submissions for completeness and policy compliance.
• Approve bonds within the assigned authority level and maintain accurate credit documentation.
• Analyze annual accounting audits, internal financial statements, and the fiscal status of accounts.
• Build agency relationships, secure new agent partnerships, and grow premium production.
• Provide marketing updates, attend regional meetings, and contribute to special projects.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of contract surety underwriting experience, including the ability to assess and approve bonds within an assigned authority framework.
• Strong quantitative, financial analysis, and credit assessment skills.
• Ability to interpret financial statements, accounting audits, and credit information.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or accounting, or equivalent professional experience.
• Excellent communication skills, agency relationship management experience, and willingness to travel up to 25%.
