Senior Controls Engineer (Packaging Automation)

Location: Battleboro, NC, USA; office-based in Rocky Mount, NC, with up to 15% travel to customer locations for installation, service, and commissioning.

What you will do

• Design, program, debug, implement, and test electrical control systems for automated packaging machinery.
• Develop PLC and HMI programs using Rockwell, Siemens, and Omron platforms.
• Design electrical schematics and panel layouts with AutoCAD Electrical or SolidWorks Electrical.
• Implement motor control with VFDs and servo systems, and configure EtherNet/IP, Profinet, and other fieldbus communications.
• Lead projects from functional specification analysis through final commissioning, documentation, testing, and training.
• Coordinate with production, sales, engineering, assembly, and field services on hardware integration, customer support, and engineering changes.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, a technical school degree, or equivalent proven experience in control software design.
• At least 7 years of automation controls and programming experience.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical or SolidWorks Electrical.
• Working knowledge of I/O hardware, signal conditioning, field devices, sensors, and machine safety standards.
• Ability to lead cross-functional work and communicate effectively in written and spoken form.
• Ability to work from the Rocky Mount, NC office and travel to customer locations up to 15%.

Nice to have

• Experience with packaging machinery.
• Experience creating and maintaining Bills of Material in ERP systems.
