Principal Data Architect (Biotech)

Location: Norwood, Massachusetts, United States. The role follows a 70/30 work model with 70% in-office collaboration. Due to U.S. export control and regulatory requirements, only U.S. persons are eligible.

Salary: $145,900–$234,200 per year, with potential eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus, other incentive compensation, or equity.

What you will do

• Define and maintain target-state data architecture across Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain domains.
• Design integration patterns connecting control systems and automation environments with enterprise platforms through real-time, event-driven OT/IT data flows.
• Establish repeatable patterns for ingesting, transforming, and serving heterogeneous CMC data.
• Define data standards covering naming, classification, lineage, metadata, controlled vocabularies, glossaries, and semantic models.
• Design data models and architecture artifacts that support governed analytics and AI-ready data products.
• Guide cloud data platform decisions and mentor engineers and data product owners.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or enterprise architecture.
• 4+ years of experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, manufacturing, or another regulated environment.
• Experience integrating control systems, automation environments, or real-time operational data sources with analytical platforms.
• Experience with ERP, QMS, MES, LIMS, or equivalent enterprise systems, plus dimensional and entity-relationship data modeling.
• Strong knowledge of data governance, lineage, access control, classification, retention, GxP, data integrity, and compliance considerations.

Nice to have

• Experience with Veeva Quality, LabVantage, Syncade, MES, LIMS, DCS, SCADA, or historian systems.
• Experience with SAP manufacturing and supply chain data domains.
• Hands-on experience with dbt, Redshift, Snowflake, or comparable cloud data warehouse tools.
• Experience with data catalogs, business glossaries, multi-tenant architectures, knowledge graphs, ontologies, or semantic modeling.
• Experience with architecture-as-code, GitHub workflows, AI-ready data architecture, or GxP validation readiness.
