Contracts Specialist - L&H; Re/Insurance

Location: Hybrid work in Armonk, NY, or Fort Wayne, IN, with three days per week in the office. The role is not eligible for visa sponsorship, visa transfers, visa extensions, or relocation support.

Base salary: $80,000–$120,000 for Fort Wayne, IN; Chicago, IL, and Kansas City, MO; $88,000–$132,000 for Armonk, NY.

What you will do

• Draft and review Life & Health traditional reinsurance contracts, addenda, and treaty documentation independently.
• Translate technical, underwriting, and commercial inputs into clear, accurate, and enforceable contractual language.
• Assess commercial, operational, and contractual risks and determine appropriate positions and approval pathways.
• Manage contract quality, consistency, deviations, emerging issues, and problematic clauses across the portfolio.
• Collaborate with client managers, underwriting, pricing, claims, legal, and operations to resolve ambiguities and align agreements with deal intent.
• Participate in client wording negotiations and engage Legal on non-standard, jurisdiction-specific, or dispute-related matters.

Requirements

• Ability to independently draft and review complex reinsurance or insurance contracts, treaty documentation, or equivalent financial services agreements.
• Experience in Life & Health reinsurance or broader insurance and reinsurance markets, including reinsurance structures and underwriting concepts.
• Strong commercial judgment and risk assessment skills, with the ability to apply established frameworks.
• Experience engaging directly with clients in contract discussions or wording negotiations.
• Familiarity with workflow tools and contract management platforms, and comfort using technology including GenAI.
• Ability to work from the United States under the stated hybrid office arrangement.

Nice to have

• Background at a reinsurer, insurer, in-house legal team, or law firm handling reinsurance or complex financial contracts.
• French proficiency.
• Exposure to US, Canadian, or Caribbean insurance regulatory environments.
