Research & Development Test Engineer

Location: On-site five days per week in Anoka, Minnesota, United States

Salary: $62,900–$116,900 per year, with potential eligibility for additional annual incentives.

What you will do

• Provide hands-on technical guidance, coaching, and training to laboratory technicians.
• Lead lab expansion initiatives, including equipment sourcing, installation, calibration, maintenance, and coordination with facilities and external partners.
• Develop and maintain test procedures, work instructions, and SOPs aligned with engineering and testing standards.
• Collaborate with NPI and R&D engineering teams, agency approval bodies, and third-party laboratories on product testing before production release.
• Troubleshoot sophisticated product, instrumentation, and test equipment issues with a focus on safety, performance, and reliability.
• Improve lab processes, equipment utilization, and test management systems while ensuring accurate and compliant data in an ISO 17025-accredited environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or equivalent hands-on laboratory engineering experience in an R&D or NPI environment.
• Two to three years of related experience preferred, with strong mechanical and electrical competence.
• Experience coaching, training, and supporting laboratory technicians with complex test setups, equipment issues, and data interpretation.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting instrumentation, electronic controls, and complex test systems; PLC or PID control experience is preferred.
• Understanding of ISO 9001 quality systems; familiarity with ISO 17025 laboratories, test documentation, and calibration requirements is preferred.
• Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds and stand or sit for extended periods; EPA 608 certification is required or must be obtained within three months of starting.

Nice to have

• Experience with LabVIEW, data analysis, equipment calibration, wiring diagrams, and troubleshooting documentation.
