Machine Learning Engineer Graduate (Recommendations and Search) - 2027 Start (PhD)

Location: San Jose, United States; fully in-person schedule up to 5 days a week

Salary: $136,800–$259,200 annually, with potential discretionary bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units.

What you will do

• Design, build, train, and evaluate machine learning models for recommendation systems, search ranking, query understanding, and conversion prediction.
• Implement pipelines for feature extraction, model training, evaluation, deployment, and A/B testing.
• Process massive user behavior data and catalog logs with distributed systems to create real-time and offline features.
• Optimize online inference latency and system throughput for high-QPS production microservices.
• Analyze online metrics, identify bottlenecks, and iterate on models to support business goals.

Requirements

• Completing or recently completed a PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline.
• Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, computer systems, and software design.
• Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of machine learning.
• Availability to onboard by the end of 2027 and a clearly stated graduation date in the resume.
• Ability to work fully in person in San Jose, up to 5 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with recommendation systems, online advertising, information retrieval, natural language processing, large-scale data mining, or related fields.
• Publications in relevant machine learning, data mining, or information retrieval conferences and journals.
• Experience in machine learning or data mining competitions such as Kaggle or KDD Cup.
