TL;DR
Senior Hydrogeologist (Environmental Remediation/Groundwater): Leading complex hydrogeologic investigations and supporting site investigation, remediation, industrial water resources, and environmental compliance projects with an accent on field studies, groundwater analysis, and contaminated-site characterization. Focus on interpreting geologic, hydrogeologic, geochemical, and laboratory data, conducting aquifer and well tests, developing groundwater maps, and preparing technical reports and permits.

Location: Preferred base in hirify.global's Michigan offices in Ann Arbor, Lansing, or Detroit, United States; most work is conducted in Michigan, with support for projects throughout North America. Travel and fieldwork may be required up to 30%.

What you will do

  • Lead complex hydrogeologic investigations and support environmental, site investigation, remediation, and industrial water resources projects.
  • Design and conduct field studies, including geologic logging, monitoring well drilling, data collection, sampling, and aquifer testing.
  • Compile, interpret, and analyze geologic, hydrogeologic, geochemical, and laboratory data.
  • Develop cross-sections, groundwater potentiometric surfaces, and isoconcentration maps.
  • Prepare and review technical memoranda, reports, proposals, cost estimates, and environmental permit documents.
  • Coordinate with project teams, laboratories, clients, and regulatory agencies while troubleshooting field issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies, Hydrology, Civil Engineering, Water Resources, or a closely related field.
  • At least 10 years of professional hydrogeology or closely related experience, including analysis, modeling, design, and management.
  • Experience with contaminated-site investigations, sampling and analysis of soil, groundwater, surface water, and sediment.
  • Experience with drilling, well installation, slug tests, pump tests, groundwater monitoring reports, and laboratory analytical data.
  • Knowledge of conceptual site models and Michigan and federal environmental regulations, including CCR, CERCLA, RCRA, CWA, and CAA.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding fieldwork in rugged terrain, remote locations, and adverse temperatures.

Nice to have

  • Professional Geologist or Certified Professional Geologist certification.
  • Coal Combustion Residual projects experience.
  • Experience with gINT, OpenGround, Surfer, or Aqtesolv.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and MSHA training.
  • Project management skills and an advanced degree in a related field.
