TL;DR
Hydrogeologist (Environmental Remediation): Supporting site investigation, remediation, industrial water resources, and environmental projects through geologic, hydrogeologic, and geochemical data collection and analysis with an accent on contaminated-site investigations, groundwater monitoring, and field studies. Focus on designing investigations, interpreting aquifer and laboratory data, developing conceptual site models and groundwater maps, and preparing technical reports and regulatory documents.

Location: Preferred based in hirify.global's Michigan offices in Ann Arbor, Lansing, or Detroit; most work is conducted in Michigan, with fieldwork and travel up to 30% across North America.

What you will do

  • Support complex hydrogeologic investigations and environmental projects involving landfills, industrial facilities, power stations, mines, and impacted water supplies.
  • Collect, compile, interpret, and report geologic, hydrogeologic, geochemical, and multi-media sampling data.
  • Log borings and monitoring well installations, digitize logs and well construction diagrams, and develop cross-sections.
  • Conduct aquifer testing, including slug and pump tests, and develop groundwater potentiometric surfaces and isoconcentration maps.
  • Prepare technical memoranda, reports, proposals, cost estimates, and environmental permit documents.
  • Coordinate with laboratories, project teams, senior personnel, clients, and regulatory agencies.

Requirements

  • At least five years of professional hydrogeology or closely related experience; a relevant master's or Ph.D. may substitute for one year.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies, Hydrology, Civil Engineering, Water Resources, or a closely related field.
  • Experience with contaminated-site investigations, soil, groundwater, surface water, and sediment sampling, laboratory data evaluation, and groundwater monitoring reports.
  • Knowledge of conceptual site models, technical evaluations, GIS, Microsoft Excel and Word, Total Station, GPS, and associated software.
  • Experience with drilling, well installation, slug tests, and pump tests in consolidated and unconsolidated formations.
  • Ability and willingness to perform fieldwork in remote areas and adverse environmental conditions is required.

Nice to have

  • Professional Geologist or Certified Professional Geologist certification.
  • Experience with Michigan and federal environmental regulations, including CCR, CERCLA, RCRA, CWA, and CAA.
  • Coal Combustion Residual projects involving groundwater monitoring, statistical analysis, site characterization, and corrective measures.
  • Familiarity with gINT, OpenGround, Surfer, or Aqtesolv.
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification and MSHA training.
