Apprentice Underwriter (Medical Professional Liability)

Base salary: $63,650–$86,105 per year

What you will do

• Support underwriters by preparing submissions, entering data into systems and models, and reviewing loss history.
• Evaluate customer exposures and risk factors to support risk selection, coverage, and pricing decisions.
• Analyze claims drivers and facilitate pricing reviews under the guidance of actuaries.
• Apply underwriting guidelines, policies, procedures, and industry regulations consistently.
• Document underwriting decisions, policy records, and communications with internal and external stakeholders.
• Assist with stewardship meetings, marketing calls, and other underwriting activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree preferred, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination.
• Medical professional liability underwriting experience required.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret financials, loss runs, regulations, underwriting guidelines, and industry reports.
• Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence and present information to managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the year.
