Thermoplastics Lead Engineer

Salary: $76,550–$135,000 annually

What you will do

• Design and prove out thermoplastic tooling for extrusion and injection molding.
• Operate and troubleshoot single- and twin-screw extruders and injection molders, and support equipment repairs and upgrades.
• Perform lab-scale and pilot-level compounding of new polymer and filler systems.
• Serve as the subject matter expert for thermoplastic engineering projects and apply engineering principles across the facility.
• Provide technical direction, coaching, and development opportunities for direct and indirect reports.
• Bridge engineering and technical teams with department leaders, drive production performance, and support customer requirements and NPI activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Plastics, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• 5+ years of profile extrusion or twin-screw compounding experience strongly preferred.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and Solid Edge, with a strong background in tooling design, mold flow analysis, and DFM.
• Knowledge of manufacturing scale-up, process optimization, SPC, Six Sigma concepts, and continuous improvement.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications; capital project management, cost modeling, quoting, manufacturing routes, and BOM experience preferred.
• Must be able to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance, be a U.S. citizen, and lift 50 pounds.
