TL;DR
Principal Network Engineer (Fortinet/Palo Alto): Architecting and operating highly available enterprise network, cloud connectivity, and perimeter security infrastructure for branches, data centers, hybrid environments, and digital banking platforms with an accent on Fortinet, Palo Alto, routing, switching, SD-WAN, and regulatory compliance. Focus on designing Zero Trust segmentation, leading modernization and incident resolution, and ensuring resilience across highly regulated financial services environments.
Location: Onsite in Charlotte, North Carolina, 5 days per week

What you will do
- Design, implement, and maintain enterprise network architectures for branches, campuses, data centers, cloud services, remote workforces, contact centers, and digital banking platforms.
- Architect highly available routing, switching, wireless, SD-WAN, VPN, cloud interconnect, and perimeter security solutions.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for Palo Alto and Fortinet platforms, including next-generation firewall architectures.
- Develop network roadmaps, standards, reference architectures, monitoring strategies, and modernization plans.
- Lead major incident resolution, root cause analysis, disaster recovery planning, audits, infrastructure projects, and vendor engagements.
- Mentor network engineers and collaborate with Information Security, Infrastructure Engineering, Cloud Operations, Application Support, and business stakeholders.
Requirements
- 10+ years of progressive enterprise network engineering experience and 5+ years supporting large-scale Cisco, Fortinet, or Palo Alto environments.
- Advanced knowledge of BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLANs, VRFs, QoS, multicast, enterprise wireless, and geographically distributed networks.
- Deep expertise with Palo Alto NGFW, Panorama, GlobalProtect, WildFire, Threat Prevention, DNS Security, and SD-WAN.
- Deep expertise with FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, FortiWeb, FortiSwitch, FortiAP, and FortiAuthenticator.
- Experience with microsegmentation, NAC, IDS/IPS, ZTNA, SSL inspection, MFA integration, Azure, ExpressRoute, hybrid cloud connectivity, and Microsoft 365 networking.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technology or engineering field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Nice to have
- Experience supporting highly regulated financial services organizations.
- Experience with Cisco Nexus and Catalyst, F5 load balancers, DNS/DHCP/IPAM, SIEM integrations, SASE architectures, and Infrastructure-as-Code automation.
