Full Stack Software Engineer, Security & Information Technology - USDS (AI)

Location: San Jose, United States; fully in-person up to 5 days per week

Salary: $187,040–$359,720 annually, plus potential discretionary bonuses, incentives, and restricted stock units.

What you will do

• Build secure, scalable distributed systems that support autonomous AI agents.
• Own the full technical vertical, from React interfaces for human agent supervision to Python and Go backend services and Kubernetes infrastructure.
• Design RESTful APIs and GraphQL schemas with authentication, rate limiting, idempotency, and versioning.
• Develop microservices, message-driven workflows, asynchronous task processing, and reliable data-consistency mechanisms.
• Build CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and observability for production systems.
• Develop agent workflows using vector search, LLM APIs, function calling, and agent state management.

Requirements

• On-site availability in San Jose and readiness for a fully in-person schedule are required.
• 5+ years of software development experience with a strong focus on backend systems.
• Expert Python skills and proven full stack web development experience with Python and JavaScript.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, microservices, REST, GraphQL, relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, automated testing, and production observability.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Go experience for high-concurrency microservices.
• Production experience with Pinecone, Weaviate, or Milvus and hybrid search.
• Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, OpenAI or Anthropic APIs, and intelligent automation agents.
• Advanced React and TypeScript experience, including Next.js, Redux Toolkit, Zustand, or React Query.
• Experience implementing accessible interfaces with Tailwind CSS, Styled Components, or Material UI.
