Software Engineer (Defense Technology)

Location: San Diego, California, United States; hybrid schedule with at least four days per week in the office. Travel of up to 10% may be required.

Salary: $90,000–$184,000 per year, with ranges varying by experience, skills, and education.

What you will do

• Design, integrate, troubleshoot, test, deliver, and update software code across mission-critical systems.
• Develop front-end and back-end features and architecture in collaboration with software, systems, integration, information, production, and test engineers.
• Document software architectures, processes, procedures, and operational techniques.
• Build, maintain, and troubleshoot Jenkins pipelines for software deployment.
• Integrate third-party and open-source software into container runtime environments and configure components for Kubernetes.
• Apply security, reliability, performance, configuration management, and industry engineering practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, data science, cybersecurity, mathematics, aeronautical engineering, or an equivalent level of full-time experience.
• At least three years of experience with Git or similar version control systems and one or more of C++, Python, Java, or JavaScript.
• Experience with container concepts, including Docker, OCI, or Podman images, containers, and registries.
• Experience with SQL and relational databases, Linux command-line usage, and file or system permissions.
• Experience with React or a similar modern frontend framework.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance and work onsite in San Diego at least four days per week.

Nice to have

• At least one year of front-end development experience.
• Experience with visualization, human interface development, DevSecOps, remote monitoring, maintenance, or software upgrades.
• Experience with cloud computing, virtualization, networking protocols, APIs, automation scripting, big data solutions, machine learning, or artificial intelligence.
• Strong communication, documentation, analytical, problem-solving, ownership, and collaboration skills.
