PCB Component Engineer (PCB Design)

Location: Santa Clara, California, USA

Base pay: $120,000–$180,000 per year, with potential eligibility for bonuses and equity.

What you will do

• Lead PCB design, layout, fabrication, and manufacturing-readiness strategies across the full product lifecycle.
• Partner with development engineers, commodity teams, suppliers, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to create PCB solutions and launch products.
• Assess and qualify PCB suppliers, support supplier selection, and participate in technical and process audits.
• Lead PCB failure analysis, risk assessment, containment, and corrective actions for fabrication and assembly defects.
• Drive PCB commodity strategy, alternate sourcing, vendor capability mapping, and resolution of fabricator Engineering Questions.
• Communicate complex technical concepts and coordinate solutions across cross-functional teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline.
• 8+ years of hands-on experience in PCB design, layout, and fabrication management.
• Advanced proficiency with Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or Siemens Xpedition, plus automated validation tools such as Valor NPI.
• Deep knowledge of PCB fabrication processes, including plating, etching, lamination, drilling, aspect ratios, and raw material properties.
• Working knowledge of IPC-2221, IPC-6012, IPC-7351, DOE, and DFMEA.
• Experience with high-density multilayer and HDI boards, DFM/DFA/DFT, high-speed interfaces, signal and power integrity, and supplier technical management.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Materials Science.
• IPC Certified Interconnect Designer certification (CID or CID+).
• Experience managing PCB layout teams in high-volume consumer electronics or high-reliability aerospace or automotive environments.
• Experience with 8D and FMEA failure analysis, boundary scan, fixture access, and advanced PCB stack-ups.
