Senior Sustaining Engineer (Instrumentation)

What you will do

• Act as the Level 3 technical escalation point for complex product and system issues affecting customers and field service teams.
• Investigate product failures and field issues using structured root cause analysis, and drive corrective and preventive actions.
• Partner with R&D to address design issues and support engineering changes, firmware revisions, and product improvements.
• Analyze field data, service reports, and reliability trends to identify systemic product issues.
• Create troubleshooting guides, service bulletins, and engineering change recommendations.
• Mentor service engineers and junior engineering staff while collaborating with Quality, Manufacturing, Product Management, and Customer Support.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, plus 6+ years of relevant engineering experience; equivalent education and experience may be considered.
• Experience supporting fielded products, sustaining engineering activities, and complex instrumentation or automation systems in production environments.
• Ability to diagnose complex issues across hardware, software, and system integrations.
• Proficiency in coding or scripting with Python, PowerShell, or similar tools.
• Experience with structured problem-solving methods such as 8D, A3, or root cause analysis, and with system architectures, control schematics, and communication protocols.
• Experience with Modbus, Ethernet/IP, or OPC UA, plus understanding of regulated manufacturing environments such as GMP, GAMP, FDA, or Annex 1.
