Principal Software Engineer - Backend (AI)

Location: Hybrid in the Greater Seattle Area, with an expectation of three days per week in the Seattle office

Base compensation: $180,000–$210,000 per year, plus significant equity opportunities

What you will do

• Own scalable backend systems for the Admin Workflows team.
• Build content integrations that ingest source material from customers’ existing systems.
• Develop the agent framework powering AI-first training roleplays.
• Build content creation workflows for the admin experience.
• Develop AI-powered feedback, skills intelligence, analysis, and analytics capabilities.
• Set technical direction, improve engineering quality, and collaborate with engineering and product teams.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional experience shipping and operating production systems.
• Deep backend expertise, including end-to-end ownership of services and technical direction.
• Experience designing scalable distributed systems and APIs.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure such as GCP, AWS, or Azure, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Proficiency in TypeScript or Python and ability to debug complex distributed systems.
• Based in the Greater Seattle Area and available to work in the office three days per week. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with LLMs, generative AI, and AI-powered applications.
• Speech or audio processing experience.
• Experience with NoSQL databases, Kubernetes, or Google Cloud Platform.
