Senior Backend Software Engineer (AI)

Location: San Francisco, California, United States; hybrid Office-Flex with in-person work three days per week or 10 days per quarter for some engineering teams.

Salary: $148,500–$223,900 annual base salary; $178,900–$246,000 in select San Francisco and New York City metropolitan areas.

What you will do

• Develop backend applications for Marketing, Commerce, Sales, Big Data, Service, Einstein, MuleSoft, Platform, Industries Clouds, Slack, and hirify.global.
• Design, implement, and tune robust APIs and API framework features for scalable multi-tenant environments.
• Integrate internal and external systems and work with large datasets across cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, Alibaba Cloud, and Azure.
• Build and ship secure, high-quality production software using test-driven development, CI/CD, and modern engineering practices.
• Design systems where AI agents integrate into human workflows and maintain shared system context for reliable AI operation.
• Participate in on-call rotation and evaluate human- and AI-generated code for correctness, security, quality, and performance.

Requirements

• A related technical degree.
• 5+ years of backend software development experience.
• Deep knowledge of an object-oriented programming language such as Java, C++, Go, C#, Ruby, Scala, Python, Node.js, or JavaScript.
• Knowledge of API-related web standards, including REST, SOAP, XML, WSDL, HTTP, and JSON; experience with Spring and gRPC.
• Experience with Agile development methodology, test-driven development, CI/CD, and cloud-based large-scale systems.
• Advanced prompt engineering skills and practical experience using AI development tools in engineering workflows.
