Senior Counsel

Location: Hybrid — 3 days per week in the office in Columbus, Ohio; some travel of 5–10% required.

Salary: $160,100–$240,100 per year

What you will do

• Provide proactive, strategic legal advice on complex commercial, real estate, supply chain, procurement, regulatory, and transactional matters.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on commercial agreements, real estate documents, land rights, leases, easements, licenses, and purchase and sale agreements.
• Lead or support real estate due diligence, transaction structuring, M&A activities, closings, and post-closing integration.
• Advise on zoning, land use, permitting, municipal regulations, title, surveys, environmental matters, and property issues affecting utility operations.
• Partner with supply chain stakeholders on procurement strategies, vendor contracts, supplier risk management, and regulatory compliance.
• Manage complex legal matters and outside counsel, coordinate cross-functionally, and train internal clients on legal issues.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. state and membership in good standing with the applicable state bar.
• At least 5 years of legal experience, including meaningful exposure to at least two of real estate and land rights, supply chain and procurement, or M&A and transactional law.
• Experience independently handling matters, managing outside counsel, drafting and negotiating transaction-related agreements, and advising senior leadership.
• Strong legal analysis, judgment, negotiation, communication, problem-solving, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must not require employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice to have

• Experience in the utility industry or another regulated industry.
• Experience at a law firm or publicly traded corporation.
• Experience with real estate transactions, property matters, procurement regulations, import/export controls, supplier risk management, and operational contracts.
• Experience with mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, partnerships, and complex transaction structuring.
