Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

Location: Remote-first role limited to the United States, with office spaces in San Jose, California and Draper, Utah.

Salary: $152,500–$183,000 for Zone 1; $137,300–$164,700 for Zone 2; $129,600–$155,600 for Zone 3, depending on geographic zone.

What you will do

• Spend approximately 80% of the time building automation and enabling automation-first quality practices.
• Write automated functional, contract, and integration tests in TypeScript and Playwright across UI and API layers.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Design to clarify requirements, acceptance criteria, specifications, and expected outcomes.
• Design and improve testing frameworks, CI/CD quality gates, release criteria, test plans, and coverage expectations across multiple squads.
• Use AI tools for test generation, self-healing locators, coverage-gap analysis, and automated failure triage.
• Complete manual and exploratory testing, investigate failures, and distinguish product defects from flaky tests and infrastructure issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience on a software development team.
• Experience designing and running automated tests with Playwright or a similar modern browser automation framework.
• Proficiency in JavaScript or TypeScript, or experience with another functional or general-purpose programming language.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted testing, API testing using REST or GraphQL, manual testing, failure analysis, and release test planning.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, quality gates, and automated test coverage practices.

Nice to have

• Payments industry or card-issuing experience.
• Contract testing with Pact or similar tools and visual regression testing with Chromatic, Percy, or similar tools.
• Experience maintaining shared test frameworks, enforcing coverage thresholds, or using Datadog and Splunk for quality signals.
• Experience evaluating non-deterministic or AI-powered features.
