Software Engineer: Test (SDET)

Location: Remote within the USA, or hybrid in Bellevue, WA or Chicago, IL.

Salary: $90,000–$118,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable automated testing frameworks and end-to-end regression suites with TypeScript and Playwright.
• Validate backend APIs, integration layers, functional flows, performance, edge cases, and error conditions according to the testing pyramid.
• Use AI-assisted development and Datadog monitoring patterns to accelerate test authoring, coverage expansion, debugging, and root-cause analysis.
• Manage automated test data using PostgreSQL and other platform data stores.
• Document test strategies, runbooks, and defects while collaborating with product managers, developers, QA Analysts, and DevOps in Agile sprints.
• Define QA standards, participate in code reviews, and coach QA Analysts and engineers in automation practices.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of professional experience in software test automation, systems validation, or backend engineering in a high-growth SaaS environment.
• Strong programming experience with TypeScript or a comparable scripting language and practical experience with automated testing frameworks.
• Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Codex, or Claude Code, including verifying and refining generated output.
• Strong knowledge of Fowler’s Testing Pyramid, API testing, functional end-to-end testing, and performance testing.
• Experience coaching or upskilling testers or engineers in automation.
• Ability to debug distributed backend microservices using logs and enterprise monitoring platforms such as Datadog.

Nice to have

• Experience validating RabbitMQ message queues, Neo4j graph databases, or Redis distributed caching.
• Background testing multi-tenant B2B SaaS applications with data isolation, high availability, and security compliance requirements.
• Experience maintaining test coverage reports or dashboards across teams.
