Software Engineer: Test (SDET)

Location: Remote in the United States or hybrid in Chicago, IL

Salary: $90,000–$118,000 per year plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable automated testing frameworks and end-to-end regression suites with TypeScript and Playwright.
• Validate backend APIs, integration layers, functional flows, and performance using the testing pyramid.
• Test edge cases, error conditions, and happy paths while improving automated testability across Engineering and QA.
• Debug automation failures and distributed backend defects using system logs, API console data, and Datadog monitoring.
• Manage automated test data with PostgreSQL and other platform data stores, and document test strategies, runbooks, and defects.
• Collaborate in Agile sprints, participate in code reviews, define QA standards, and coach QA Analysts on automation.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of professional experience in test automation, systems validation, or backend engineering in a high-growth SaaS environment.
• Strong TypeScript or comparable scripting-language skills and practical experience with automated testing frameworks.
• Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants, including writing prompts, creating reusable instructions, and validating generated code.
• Deep knowledge of Fowler’s Testing Pyramid, including unit, integration, end-to-end, API, functional, and performance testing.
• Experience coaching testers or engineers and improving automation skills across a team.
• Ability to independently debug distributed microservices using logs and enterprise monitoring platforms such as Datadog.

Nice to have

• Experience testing RabbitMQ, Neo4j, Redis, or other advanced data infrastructure at scale.
• Background validating multi-tenant B2B SaaS applications, data isolation, high availability, and security compliance tooling.
• Experience maintaining test coverage dashboards or reports across teams.
