Substation Project Engineer

Location: Raleigh, North Carolina, United States; hybrid remote/office

What you will do

• Coordinate engineering across multidisciplinary teams, project management, clients, and suppliers throughout the project lifecycle.
• Facilitate technical discussions, clarify responsibilities, and resolve open technical interfaces and questions.
• Develop equipment specifications and scopes of work with procurement, engineering specialists, and suppliers.
• Coordinate technical evaluations, design reviews, equipment testing, cross-discipline reviews, drawings, and project records.
• Track engineering changes, review budget impacts, and maintain visibility of scope and delivery risks.
• Support construction, commissioning, closeout, and handover, including as-built documentation and lessons learned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar engineering discipline.
• 5–10 years of relevant experience in substation design or construction, power systems, or a comparable engineering or project delivery setting.
• Experience coordinating technical interfaces and multidisciplinary work; exclusive substation design experience is not required.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lead discussions, coordinate clients and suppliers, prioritize deadlines, and drive issues to resolution.
• Ability to travel up to 15–20% domestically and occasionally internationally.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with air-insulated switchgear (AIS) and gas-insulated switchgear (GIS).
• Experience in an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) environment.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
