Intern Substation Engineering - Civil

Location: Merrillville, Indiana; candidates must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location.

Salary: $18.80–$31.70 per hour

What you will do

• Support engineering staff with projects addressing utility facility needs.
• Evaluate and design electric and gas facilities at varying levels of complexity.
• Collect and analyze data, review records, and perform field measurements.
• Create job order sketches using AutoCAD.
• Assemble data for job order estimates and support project management activities.
• Follow safety requirements and assist with emergency response efforts when needed.

Requirements

• Current student in an accredited, four-year Electrical or Civil Engineering program.
• At least one year of undergraduate study completed and entering junior or senior year in fall 2027.
• Ability to work 40 hours per week during the 12-week summer program starting in May 2027.
• Proficiency with PC applications; strong AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and Access skills are preferred.
• Effective written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, flexibility, and willingness to learn.
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
