Principal Systems Engineer

Salary: $95,000–$245,000 base salary per year

What you will do

• Analyze customer and stakeholder needs, evaluate technology options, and develop innovative system-level solutions.
• Lead conceptualization and development of project solutions across the product lifecycle, serving as a Product Owner when appropriate.
• Drive requirements development, solution definition, systems analysis, integration, testing, verification, and validation.
• Identify program and system-level risks and execute mitigation strategies.
• Lead medium-sized teams of 5–10 people, align them with program goals, and build cross-functional collaboration.
• Mentor engineers and development teams, establish best practices, and communicate complex technical concepts to senior and external stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related field; a master’s degree or higher is preferred.
• 7–10+ years of experience as a systems engineer or in a related role.
• Strong practical experience with systems engineering processes and simulation-based performance analysis.
• Experience with modeling and simulation, coding, descriptive modeling such as SysML, STPA, or related engineering analysis tools as required by the role.
• Experience leading technical work, engaging stakeholders, managing priorities, and mentoring technical staff.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience with trade-space exploration, analysis of alternatives under uncertainty, data visualization, and storyboarding.
• Knowledge of machine learning, artificial intelligence, numerical optimization, statistical and probabilistic modeling for physics-based systems and sparse multidimensional data.
• Expertise with the INCOSE Systems Engineering Handbook, the Department of Defense Acquisition Framework, or comparable standards.
• Experience modeling defense, navigation, or communications systems, organizational transformation, new business development, white papers, or proposals.
