Waste Treatment Tech - 1st Shift (Wastewater)

Location: Grand Island, NY, United States; onsite, 1st shift from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with call-in response required for plant or compliance emergencies outside regular hours.

Salary: $25.41 per hour and up

What you will do

• Support daily operation of wastewater treatment facilities, biological treatment systems, collection and distribution systems.
• Collect composite and grab wastewater samples and perform routine laboratory testing for monitoring and state-mandated requirements.
• Monitor equipment, perform preventive and routine maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and make process or mechanical control adjustments.
• Investigate SPDES permit non-compliance events and complete required documentation and notifications.
• Maintain sampling, testing, maintenance logs, regulatory reports, and submissions to environmental agencies.
• Support regulatory inspections, equipment repairs, waste-stream evaluation, and fire pump and tank system maintenance.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or higher.
• 1–3 years of experience in a similar wastewater treatment or waste-handling role.
• Knowledge of wastewater treatment plant laboratory procedures and testing methods.
• Experience with equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and problem solving.
• Computer literacy for data entry and reporting.
• Training and qualification in PPE for confined-space entries, plus strong teamwork, adaptability, and communication skills.
