Sr. Principal Engineer - Autonomy

Location: Frederick, Maryland, United States; travel to off-site locations may be required.

Salary: $104,100–$173,900 per year across U.S. locations.

What you will do

• Develop and integrate large ROS2-based autonomy software applications.
• Design and support software architecture, motion planning, computer vision, sensor processing, graphical interfaces, and inter-process messaging.
• Develop engineering calculations, select hardware, and perform investigations and software development according to engineering standards.
• Create software unit and regression tests and write requirements and design documentation.
• Deliver small and large portions of applications independently while supporting supervisors, suppliers, specialists, and other departments.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide program support, including travel to off-site locations.

Requirements

• Produce high-quality, maintainable C++ code.
• Demonstrated proficiency in ROS2-based software development within complex applications.
• Experience contributing to real-world autonomous applications.
• Advanced proficiency with Ubuntu 22.04+ and distributed systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field and at least six years of related experience.
• Ability to make complex engineering decisions, solve novel problems, and act as a lead worker.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
• Experience as a key contributor on real-world autonomy projects.
• Project leadership experience or a track record of innovative solution design.
