Lead Automation Test Engineer (AI)

Location: Herndon, Virginia; candidates must reside in CA, CO, DC, FL, GA, IL, MD, NJ, NY, NC, OH, OK, PA, SC, TX, VA, or WV. Availability is required during core business hours from 9:00 AM–5:00 PM EST.

Salary: $160,000–$180,000 USD per year.

What you will do

• Lead and coordinate senior automation engineers, assigning work, tracking progress, and ensuring timely delivery of customer commitments.
• Evaluate, pilot, and implement AI-enabled testing tools and reusable prompt templates for test generation, automation development, maintenance, and analysis.
• Modernize Selenium automation suites by leading AI-assisted migration to Playwright and establishing reusable framework patterns.
• Provide hands-on leadership across functional, integration, API, regression, and end-to-end testing.
• Optimize regression suites by reducing flaky tests, execution times, and manual failure-triage effort.
• Act as a customer-facing technical lead, presenting tool choices, migration strategies, framework designs, prototypes, and automation recommendations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Typically 8–10 years of related experience, including at least 5 years of hands-on test automation experience.
• Experience leading automation teams and delivering customer commitments while managing enhancements and production issues.
• Hands-on experience with AI testing tools such as Testim, mabl, Functionize, Applitools, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar tools.
• Experience with Selenium, Playwright, Cucumber/Gherkin, JUnit, TestNG, Postman, REST Assured, and Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Python.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S., reside in one of the listed states, work EST core hours, and be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting US federal government contracts.
• Experience working in Eastern, Central, or Mountain time zones.
• SAFe Agile experience.
• ISTQB, Playwright/Selenium, AWS Developer, or AWS DevOps Engineer certification.
