TL;DR
Software Development Engineer in Test (Test Automation): Designing and continuously improving automation frameworks and production-quality test code for modern distributed systems with an accent on UI, API, integration, end-to-end, performance, and security testing. Focus on embedding quality engineering throughout the SDLC, validating microservices and databases, and mentoring engineers through code and design reviews.
Location: 100% remote within the United States
Salary: $85,000–$100,000 annually

What you will do
- Design, build, and continuously improve test automation frameworks.
- Write production-quality test code for unit, integration, end-to-end, performance, and security testing.
- Automate REST and gRPC API testing and validate databases using SQL.
- Embed quality engineering practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Collaborate with product, design, engineering, operations, and business stakeholders to translate ambiguous requirements into solutions.
- Contribute through code reviews, design reviews, debugging, documentation, and mentorship.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- At least 5 years of experience in SDET or test-focused software engineering roles.
- Strong programming skills in at least one of Java, Python, JavaScript, or C#.
- Hands-on experience with Selenium, Cypress, or Playwright, plus REST or gRPC API automation.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, SQL, database validation, microservices, distributed systems, and modern web architectures.
- Excellent debugging, communication, documentation, and Agile/Scrum collaboration skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with contract testing tools such as Pact or Spring Cloud Contract.
- Performance testing with JMeter, Gatling, k6, or Locust.
- Exposure to security testing tools such as OWASP ZAP, Burp Suite, or Snyk.
- Familiarity with chaos engineering, resilience testing, or ISTQB certification.
