Principal Engineer - Digital Assets (Fintech)

Location: San Francisco, with a hybrid work model; positions may also be located in Scottsdale, Chicago, or New York. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States for any employer. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary: $207,000–$276,000 per year in San Francisco; $202,000–$230,000 per year in Chicago or Phoenix, plus a discretionary incentive plan and benefits.

What you will do

• Own architectural designs and technical patterns for cross-border money movement and digital asset settlement systems.
• Resolve complex scalability, security, resilience, and compliance challenges across distributed payment platforms.
• Shape department-wide technical vision, product strategy, technical designs, and engineering roadmaps with product, architecture, and software engineering partners.
• Lead cross-functional technical initiatives and collaborate with customers to improve payment products.
• Mentor engineers, coach team members, present technical topics, and act as a senior engineering authority.
• Support risk management and the integrity and confidentiality of systems and data.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years designing and developing complex software projects, including 8+ years in fintech.
• Experience designing and evolving large-scale payment or cross-border transaction platforms in regulated environments.
• Deep understanding of digital asset or stablecoin systems, including security, scalability, and operational reliability.
• Experience with Java, RESTful services, microservices, Spring Boot, messaging frameworks, Oracle PL/SQL, JavaScript frameworks, and end-to-end system design.
• Experience with test automation, CI/CD, cloud platforms, software development methodologies, repositories, and defect-tracking tools; successful background and drug screening required.

Nice to have

• Master’s or Ph.D. in computer science or another technical field.
• Experience with AWS, Terraform, database architecture, monitoring and alerting, Splunk, Altiris, or Zabbix.
• Knowledge of ACH/EFT, RTP, or FedNow payment networks.
• Experience with C#, Ruby, Python, or PHP.
