Patient Education Nurse

Location: Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas, United States. Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; on-site clinical work.

What you will do

• Assess patients and families, document nursing interventions, and report clinical, laboratory, radiographic, and psychosocial findings to providers.
• Provide patient and caregiver education, psychosocial support, symptom management, and continuity of care.
• Prepare and administer medications, blood products, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other therapies under physician supervision.
• Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, maintain central lines, and program portable infusion pumps for home drug delivery.
• Coordinate consultations, diagnostic testing, referrals, appointments, medication refills, phone triage, and communication across the interdisciplinary team.
• Support clinical research, community education, satellite-office coverage, and the development of less experienced nursing staff.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program; BSN preferred.
• Current RN license and registration with the State Board of Nursing in the practicing state.
• Current Basic Life Support certification and compliance with continuing education requirements.
• Five years of nursing experience, including at least one year in oncology preferred.
• Experience in oncology, infusion, chemotherapy or immunotherapy, radiation oncology, gynecological oncology, or bone marrow and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
• Ability to work with patients in a clinical oncology environment involving physical demands and possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, and ionizing radiation.
