TL;DR
Utility Designer II (GIS): Preparing and coordinating utility design plans for electric, gas, and other infrastructure systems in residential and commercial land development projects with an accent on constructible drawings, permitting, and regulatory compliance. Focus on performing spatial analysis in ArcGIS, coordinating designs with engineers, municipalities, and utility providers, and resolving complex layout and schedule challenges.

Location: San Antonio, TX, United States. Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with occasional overtime as needed.

What you will do

  • Prepare and revise complex utility design drawings, construction documents, and exhibits from redlines and engineering input.
  • Independently design layouts for electric, gas, and other utility infrastructure systems.
  • Analyze sketches, field data, and design notes to determine effective layouts that meet project and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate designs with engineers, project managers, municipalities, utility providers, and external agencies.
  • Integrate QA/QC and permitting requirements into documentation, prepare permit applications, and track agency responses.
  • Maintain project documentation, communicate progress and schedule impacts, and support or mentor junior designers and technicians.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in CAD, GIS, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of utility design experience, including electric and gas distribution systems.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS, utility design standards, civil construction drawings, utility coordination, and asset/resource management tools such as ARM.
  • Strong understanding of utility permitting processes and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong written, verbal, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision, and collaborate effectively.
