TL;DR
Flight Software Engineer (Spacecraft): Developing and integrating flight-critical software for autonomous spacecraft systems with an accent on mission operations software, embedded flight computers, telemetry, command systems, and real-time safety-critical systems. Focus on designing ground and vehicle-side software, integrating with avionics and GN&C teams, and validating systems through simulation, hardware-in-the-loop testing, environmental testing, and flight operations.

Location: Fully onsite in Torrance, California, United States; remote and hybrid work are not available.

Salary: $220,000–$300,000 annually

What you will do

  • Develop mission operations software for planning, executing, and monitoring missions in real time.
  • Design, implement, and integrate flight software for spacecraft systems.
  • Build ground software services for telemetry, command, data handling, and visualization.
  • Develop embedded software for flight computers, sensors, and actuators.
  • Define software interfaces and data models with avionics, propulsion, guidance, navigation, control, and systems engineering teams.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, simulation environments, and software-, hardware-, and environmental-testing activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • At least four years of experience in flight software, embedded software, or mission operations software.
  • Experience with telemetry and command systems, mission control software, and space systems such as satellites, rovers, or launch vehicles.
  • Experience developing embedded software for real-time or safety-critical systems.
  • Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop testing, fault-tolerant system design, DevOps practices, and automated testing pipelines.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, along with the ability to obtain or currently hold an active TS/SCI clearance.

Nice to have

  • Experience with cloud-based ground systems or mission operations platforms.
  • Experience working independently in small, fast-paced engineering teams.
