Senior Flight Software Engineer (Aerospace)

Hiring range: $154,000–$230,000 USD annually

What you will do

• Architect and deliver safety-critical flight software for the Terran R vehicle.
• Define software standards and best practices while providing technical leadership and mentoring junior engineers.
• Meet system and performance requirements involving latency, allowed jitter, and control frequency.
• Integrate guidance, navigation, and control algorithms for vehicle ascent, re-entry, descent, and landing.
• Integrate GPS, IMU, radar, valves, thrust vector controls, and landing grid fins with embedded software and avionics systems.
• Develop telemetry systems and support hardware-in-the-loop, hardware-out-of-the-loop, physics, and fluid simulation infrastructure.

Requirements

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, aerospace engineering, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of production software development experience.
• Experience delivering production-level, high-reliability software.
• Expertise in Rust, C++, and/or other systems programming languages, plus algorithms and data structures.
• Expert knowledge of Linux concepts including memory management, CPU shielding, and scheduling.
• Expertise in networking concepts such as TCP/IP and UDP, and software development processes including source control, bug tracking, and CI/CD.

Nice to have

• Systems-level programming experience, including synchronization primitives and memory management.
• Experience with inter-process communication methods.
• Experience with message-passing protocols such as FlatBuffers or Protocol Buffers.
