What you will do

  • Design mechanical systems for railroad facilities, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, fire alarm, fueling, compressed air, and BAS control systems.
  • Prepare design packages with drawings, equipment specifications, and heating and cooling load calculations.
  • Manage construction activities, including bidding, contract awards, site inspections, issue resolution, change orders, and invoice payments.
  • Supervise consultant contracts, define scopes of work, and organize design meetings and phase reviews.
  • Prepare project cost estimates, studies, construction schedules, grant requests, and budget estimates.
  • Provide technical direction and field assistance to maintenance electricians and outside contractors evaluating existing mechanical and electrical systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least five years of Mechanical Engineering experience designing mechanical systems and related railroad systems.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD or MicroStation.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and control procedures, HAP, Trane heating and cooling load software, and BAS controls.
  • Knowledge of Chicago Mechanical and Building Codes, NFPA, ASHRAE, and plumbing codes.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; valid driver’s license required.

Nice to have

  • Professional Engineer license in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Class A, B, or C certification for Underground Storage Tanks.
