Process Improvement & Quality Engineer (Manufacturing): Improving composite-can manufacturing efficiency through lean principles, production-loss analysis, complaint investigation, and equipment and process improvement with an accent on root-cause analysis, preventative actions, and process control. Focus on leading continuous improvement projects, commissioning and validating plant equipment, introducing new products, and training operators to sustain production standards.
Location: Chesterfield, United Kingdom; based at the Chesterfield manufacturing plant. The role includes visits to manufacturing plants in the UK and Europe, suppliers, and customers.

Chesterfield manufactures composite cans used primarily for food and powdered-beverage packaging.
What you will do
- Improve plant manufacturing efficiency by applying lean manufacturing principles and addressing major production losses.
- Lead root-cause analysis for production issues, customer complaints, and internal complaints, then implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Manage continuous improvement projects covering 5S, SMED, autonomous maintenance, centre-lining, and process control automation.
- Support machine installation, factory acceptance testing, commissioning, validation, team training, and ongoing operation and maintenance.
- Support new-product introductions, including material trials and manufacturing launch activities.
- Create production standards, train operators, track performance indicators, and ensure improvements are sustained across similar equipment.
Requirements
- Master’s or bachelor’s degree in a technical, manufacturing, or science subject.
- Proven problem-solving capability using methods such as 8D, DMAIC, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, UPS, or A3.
- Ability to analyse complex data, communicate clearly, train staff, and use Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and email effectively.
- Curiosity, willingness to learn, bias for action, attention to detail, teamwork, and strong customer focus.
- Ability to work at the Chesterfield plant and travel to UK and European plants, suppliers, and customers.
Nice to have
- At least one year of experience in a process-control or engineering role.
- MEng in industrial or mechanical engineering.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt qualification or equivalent.
- Experience in fast-moving manufacturing, food packaging, automotive, or FMCG.
